31 DC – Inspired by Nature

21 Apr

It’s time for the inspiration part of the 31 Day Challenge, and usually I’m not very good at “inspired by” challenges, but I’ll still try to come up with something for the next few days!
Today it’s supposed to be inspired by nature, so I just did some trees which is what I’ve seeing out on my yard, trees with a few loose leaves.

I started with a white base and then sponged on Zoya Blu and Breezi for the sky and Shawn for the grass and leaves. I wanted to stamp some trees but couldn’t find a good stamp for it so I just had to freehand them with a nail art brush and OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys.

31 DC – Inspired by Fabric

16 Apr

Hi everyone! This is a design that’s been in my to do list for a while and the today’s challenge was just the perfect time to try it.

The fabric inspiration is actually a shirt that has this rainbow pattern and black animal print. I started with a white base and then applied the gradient with a sponge and the following colors: China Glaze Wicked Style, Color Club Pucci-licious, Finger Paints Carnation Creation, Maybelline Outloud Lime, and Sally Hansen Orange Impulse (which is not really visible).
The stamping was done with Konad black special polish and Konad plate m78.
I really love how it came out, although maybe I should have positioned the gradient so that green and orange showed up more!

And here is a few pictures with the shirt! As I was taking these pictures, the wind was really strong and it blew the shirt to my back yard so I had to go running after it, I’m pretty sure the neighbors think I’m totally crazy!

(Sorry about all the fuzz on the fabric, my kitty just leaves fur everywhere!)

I admit that part of the reason I bought this shirt is because I thought it would make some cool looking nails!

31 DC – A New Technique To You

31 Mar

For today’s challenge I tried the spun sugar look which I’ve wanted to try for a while. This was so frustrating! I couldn’t get the polish at the right consistency, it was either too dry or not dry enough and I just get too impatient. This is what I managed before I finally gave up!

I used all Nubar colors, the pink base is Honeysuckle and the strings were done with Yellow Primrose, Blue Hydrangea, Baby Sprout and Purple Aster. I left it without top coat because I liked the textured look and didn’t want the strings to blend together.
Honestly, I don’t know if I’d try this again, I just don’t think I have the patience for it and it seems like too much waste of polish!

Have a Happy Easter if you celebrate! And if you don’t, have a great day anyway! :)

OPI Pastel Stripes

22 Mar

Since Spring is finally here (even though it was snowing yesterday!), I wanted to do some fun stripes in pastel colors. I think they don’t look as pastel as they did in the bottle but I still like them!

I started with a base of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. When that dried, I added pieces of striping tape diagonally on each nail and painted the lines with OPI Sparrow Me The Drama, Can’t Find My Czechbook and Mermaid’s Tears.

Loved how this turned out, my right hand was a little messier but not bad. The placement of the stripes was a little tricky, but using tweezers really helps!
Thanks for looking!

31DC – Stamping

19 Mar

I didn’t know what I wanted to do for today’s challenge, so this was done at the last minute. I’m not even sure if I like it, I tried to use two different stamps but it didn’t turn out how I imagined it!

I wanted to create a subtle cloudy background and then add some holo butterflies. However I couldn’t find the right colors I wanted for the sky, so I ended up using Essie Borrowed & Blue and stamping the cloud pattern from NC 02 with a blue Konad polish. I just got the Color Club Halo Hues so I tried stamping some holographic butterflies with Cosmic Fate and plate BM-307.
(Please ignore my index nail, I tried to use two different butterfly stamps and that didn’t work out so well!)

I think the background stamping really needed to be softer and subtler to make the butterflies stand out more.
The Halo Hues are beautiful and great for stamping though!
